On July 10, 2024, President Joe Biden implemented “melt and pour requirements” on steel imported from Mexico and reinstated the 25% tariff under Section 232 on steel imports that do not meet this requirement.

Biden also implemented new “country of smelt and country of most recent cast” requirement for of aluminum articles imported from Mexico and reinstated the 10% tariff under Section 232 on steel imports that do not meet this requirement. The changes apply to goods entered or withdrawn for consumption on or after July 10, 2024.
